First Sights – London
// October 5th, 2008 // London Diary
Finally, I’m in London! In fact I’ve been here for the past two days trying to acclimatise myself with the weather, environment and culture to some extent.
I must admit that it has been a smooth sailing so far but I’ve seen a lot in just two days starting from my entry in the local airspace.
Our plane was forced to go for a ride due to the heavy traffic at the Heathrow airport. I had been forewarned about Heathrow but this experience did satisfy my doubts
After walking hastily for about a mile (they don’t use kilometers here!! SI units??) I reached the immigration counters where some counters were reserved for first time students. “Welcome to London”, said the immigration officer after looking at my unconditional offer letter and health certificate. The whole process didn’t take more than two minutes. The luggage arrived nicely on time and I was out of the terminal withink few minutes riding home in my uncle’s car. The ride was pretty slow for my liking. Crowded streets (not traffic jams) is a norm here. The pedestrians almost own the street. You HAVE to give way to them, which is quite nice too.
On the way home I saw lots of shops ranging from wine shops, takeaways, indian cuisine and halal restaurants. Oh, and I did see people lip-locking too, couldn’t ignore that I guess
The weather seems cold, even the locals think it is! The city is a blend of new technology integrated in old construction. The city is not lush green, neither can it win any beautiful city contest. But who cares? It’s functioning is great.
There are many interesting things I wanted to write but my tired mind is currently inhibiting my will to do so.
One more thing I should add is that my flightmate (seated next to me!) was an Arab (from UAE) Cambridge student, which was fine. But it did left me wondering whether a hot chick will ever sit next to me (before my marriage) ?????
I’ll post a detailed version soon. Right now, I do miss home but that feeling should subside once the term kicks off next week, hopefully

when ever i am on the flight….like when i use to….i always wonder the same thing but then an other thought comes to my mind….how can i think such a ______(fill it urself according to ur mind
) thing when i am flying with PIA
…
Any ways i hope u don’t feel home sick or country sick…that will ruin ur studies
best of luck bro….i do wish i will take my Ph.D Thesis under ur supervision.
I like your sense of humor.
Hmmm….. kindly change this:
“But it did left me wondering whether a hot chick will ever sit next to me (before my marriage) ?????”
TO
“But it did left me wondering whether a hot chick will ever sit next to me. (TERMINATION OF SENTENCE) ?????”
You can’t be that sure you know. May be planet earth gets hit by a plague that turn all the beautiful girls into something else
@Awais: homesickness will probably creep in soon, can’t help that
oye konsi supervision?
@Rain: where’d u find humor?? :S
@Talha: If it doesn’t, and my wife finds this post, I could be in trouble
So better be on the safer side
Well,
Hvn’t sit next to you.
Thanks God I was not your flightmate
I don’t want to be a soooooooooo called HOT CHIK.
“Beautiful girl” sounds much better. Is not it?——–> here goes sense of humor.:)

great city i must say, in fact the only city in England where there’s something to do, other than clubbing and partying, even after 6. i suppose u joined ur classes today and went for your registration and all.
Wish you luck Anas, its gonna be a lil tuff initially, away from home and all but its all worth it
