Blog Gender Analyzer

line

I found this link from Tazeen’s blog of an analyzer that determines whether a certain blog is written by a man or a woman.

So, I keyed in my blog address and out came the result:

We think http://blog.anasimtiaz.com is written by a man (88%).

I found it quite amusing and interesting, and so I decided to test it further with certain other links from my blogroll, and here are the results. The comments in italics are my own.

Waking Life:
We think http://razzita.blogspot.com is written by a man (80%). — Spot On!

SAWJ:
We think http://blog.ali-jafri.com is written by a man (65%). — Hmmmm! I don’t think the blogger’s hair is a criterion by any means!

Ammar360:
We think http://www.ammar360.com is written by a man (78%). — Not bad!

Karachiwali:
We guess http://karachiwali.wordpress.com is written by a man (58%), however it’s quite gender neutral. – Oh that’s not a surprise, is it? :D

Absar Shah:
We guess http://blog.absarshah.com is written by a man (55%), however it’s quite gender neutral. — Thank God it didn’t slip below 50% man :P

Farooqk:
We think http://farooqk.wordpress.com is written by a man (80%). — I expected 101% there :D

Uni:
We guess http://uni-aza.blogspot.com is written by a man (52%), however it’s quite gender neutral. — Is being gender neutral an honour??
Can anyone find out how this thing is working??!!

  6. Can anyone find out how this thing is working??!!

According to their website, they are using a text classifier hosted on uClassify.com. They trained the classifier using blogs written by men and women, but judging by the results, their training samples for “female blogs” were not good enough.

so u are a 12% woman….one think i didn’t liked about it was that for every blog u mentioned it was been compared with a man’s blog…..was itg cause it was more than 50% manly???? can u find some blog that is more than 50% womanly i would like to see what it will have to say.

  8. i think they havent used too many blogs for training. if they really want to see how it works on web, they should ask the user to tell whether the result was correct or not. i cant see that on the website.

  9. We have strong indicators that http://www.zaheeriqbal.blogspot.com is written by a man (96%).

    So, this is it.
I am afraid this is how a man blogs on the internet.

  10. Karachiwali,
They do have a poll (“Did GenderAnalyzer give the correct result for your blog?”) at the page where it shows the result. At this time, the poll is at “Yes – 53%” and “No – 47%”.

  11. Why is everyone after my hair “Man”?

    line
  12. @Saadat: Or maybe our fellow female bloggers need to get more girly :D

@Awais: LOL @ 12% woman! If you go to karachiwali’s blog you can find some blogs which resulted in 70% woman, so it is not exactly compared with a man.

@karachiwali: There is a poll, just as Saadat mentioned.

    @Zaheer: Way to go! The

@SAWJ: All of us love your hair – only :P

    Hi,
It’s a bit late for this but since I just landed here right now: The GA found my blog to be 82% male. The analyzer’s novelty wears off fast enough to let its stupidity shine through. :)

    line
    • Where do you find girls teaching how to build websites? Not the GA’s faults :D

On a more serious note, the thing works on certain limited patterns. It’s still in beta phase, and as far as I could gather they’re working hard to get more trends in it. And then this is the difference between a human brain and man-made artificial intelligence, isn’t it?

      BTW, nice blog Fatima.
