Its December!

// December 31st, 2008 // Braindumps

Itna shor kyun horaha hai? Kahan ho?” I questioned my friend on phone in Pakistan yesterday. “Shaadi mein hoon“, he answered. Then I called my mom and the first thing she said “Abhi xxx ki shaadi se aye hein.” Arghhh!!

What is it man? Marriage seems to be the buzzword in December. Despite the cold weather it seems that everyone wants to get married in December. Back at home, I used to skip most of the early and mid December marriages due to scheduling of exams those days. This wasn’t all that bad, some marriages are extremely boring. There are those marriages of close relatives and friends where you tend to enjoy. And then there are those when you don’t know a single person and still forced to attend (mostly because of parents). BTW, there is always a table near the end of the marriage halls/lawns where people sit quietly looking down, waiting for the dinner to be served. Those are the ones who don’t know a single soul at the ceremony and are attending by force. I was unfortunate enough to experience that, once.

Coming back to marriages in December, why does everyone want to get married in December??!!!! I remember, when my sister’s marriage date was being finalized, the first choice was December. But then I coerced my parents to change it to March using all possible ethical and unethical means. :P Fortunately, the larkay walay had no problems. I had only one genuine reason: my exams in december! And being the most important person to arrange things from our side I had to be free at the time of marriage!

The good thing about a December marriage is weather. Suits can be worn without worrying about humidity. I think I’m being nostalgic :S

Number of marriages in December will decrease next and the year after and probably the next one because of Muharram coincinding with December.

I know this is a completely useless post and it was just something on my head that had to be dumped. So don’t bother criticizing it in the comment. If you do know why people get married or like to get married in December, then do chip in your two cents.

    I think it has only to do with the weather :) .. Also, people who are abroad find it easier to make use of their work holidays (jo keh unhon nay poora sal jama kar keh rakhi hoti hain)..and bring their kids who are also on christmas break..

    Aur to koi reason nahin hay :) ..

    Women might have another reason waisay ..:S Makeup doesn’t melt so easily in December..

    My brother and sister got married in December on consecutive days. I had an exam right after my brother’s nikah, and when I walked into the exam hall dressed in my stylish (or so I like to think) kurta shalwar suit, everyone was like what-the-hell-is-up-with-him. A classfellow even asked me if coming to the exam dressed in a kurta shalwar suit helped me earn any bonus marks.

    I never asked my gharwalas why they arranged the marriages in December, though. Maybe all the nikah registrars offer a discount or something at this time of the year. Or maybe, it has something to do with Moharram — people want to get married before Moharram, and since Moharram has been coming right after December for the past few years, people just sit down and decide a date in December.

  4. Awais karim says:

    Mostly its weather but i think that muharrum thing also plays some role in it….

    So mushi wassup when are u starting ur blog???

  5. mustafa says:

    actually i did start one….it was dedicated to QUANTUM COMPUTING…yeah thats right…a friend gave me this idea to post anything u read or hear about this State-Of-The-Art Technology…but it lasted only one day or should I say one post.

  6. talhaabid says:

    @Mustafa: That’s because the blog was run by you.

    @Anas: I bet 10 pounds (yes, because I don’t believe in rupee anymore :P ) that you will get married in December.

    @Awais: Why are you trying to get everyone you know into blogging.

  7. Saadia says:

    I don’t think weather is the main reason; a secondary one, maybe. Because October and March weathers are much more suitable and pleasant. You selfish man, you can wear suits in Decembers but women don’t like wearing sweaters or shawls! :P

    I think it is because it is holiday season for people who have relatives coming in from the West.

  8. mustafa says:

    @Talha: Thanks for the encouragement

  9. Awais karim says:

    @Uni: But exam season bhi to hota hai!!

    @Saadat: LoL man! How do you even prepare for exams in such a chaos?

    @mustafa: done!

    @Saadia: I can wear suits in summer as well :D This reminds me of a wedding where, as you said, women couldn’t wear shawls, so they were in their usual stylish stuff – mostly short sleeved. Towards the end, most were shivering :D But sweater nai pehneingi!!!

    @Awais: I need to rewrite that.

    @talha: if I’m to marry in the next three years, december is unlikely :P

  12. Uni says:

    Oh right…only the guys needed an explanation for my comment. KW understood easily.

  24. anas says:

    @Hira: bahu-hunting … lol…*wondering what my mom did this season*

  25. mustafa says:

  26. Absar says:

    Uh, I may be naive, but if you watch enough Animal Planet, you’d discover that winters are the mating season for a large spectrum of mammalian species. Maybe we do share certain genes with the rest our mammalian kind, and unconsciously start the process during winters?

    (I hope you see the humor in this and not consider this a serious opinion :P )

  27. yawn says:

    international holiays do play a part but most probably in pak its the weather and its effects…june-july garmi…dec nice n cold..suit pehen saktay hain…btw larkion nay haar season mein sleaveless n quater sleaves hi pehena hota hay so it doesnt really matter to them… :) dont care if u take offence…plus weather ka ik aur effect bhi hota hay…its nice to have someone in bed with u in the cold winter night…someone u can…enough said..i leave the rest to ur imaginations.. :)
