Turkish PM Lashes Out At Israeli PM
This is an interesting event that, I believe, didn’t get a lot of media coverage. I have never seen a PM of any country being this blunt in front of his counterpart. Oh, and I also believe our dear puppet Gilani also participated in this event probably hiding somewhere in the corner.
Life's Beautiful, Again
Lately I have been struggling to find time and words to post about the happenings in my life. The reason for this being the enormity and multitude of events that have transpired in the past week. It was a week extreme stress, effort and learning. The learning part is not only about the courses but also about different kinds of people. I can say that it was one helluva week. The tags for the week include deadlines, courseworks, in-fighting in project groups, late nights, sleep deprivation, sandwiches, sleep deprivation and fatigue. I’m not delving further on the past week at this point (I already have two requests to write about it but I guess two aren’t enough to touch the sensitive zones of my encephalon).
Anyway, the new term has kicked off. It officially began on last Monday but I had no time to attend those classes so effectively it starts this week for me. The week began with the submission of two reports early in the day. To celebrate this auspicious moment and to waste four free hours before the last lecture we decided to pay a visit to the Natural History Museum for the first time, which BTW is only a 5-min walk away from the campus. The visit turned out to be utterly boring. Actually there are two free museums. The other one is a science museum which sounds much better. But this guy said there are mummies in the History Museum. It turned out that he thought there were mummies :@ However there were dinosaur remains (lots of them), mammals, birds, volcanic rocks, crystals, stones, gems, etc etc. Who cares about them? The place was full though and there were many aspiring artists from art school sitting in the way trying to produce some great sketches. They were just sitting comfortably, unfazed by people moving around them. At that point I realized my life is much better

Authority of United Nations?
There was a lot of noise made inside Pakistan when the government acted under UN directives or cracking down on newly-banned organizations. It is even said that the government acted hastily before the decision of UN came. The government of PPP fully abided by the UN because it feared isolation and sanctions.
Now, it is the same UN whose resolution is being ignored by India for allowing Kashmiris to decide their own future. The same UN that legitimised the Iraq war for finding WMDs. And the same UN from where Z.A. Bhutto walked out tearing the papers in 1971.
What is the authority of UN? Can a country ignore UN resolutions? If it can then why was Pakistan so keen to act in such a disgraceful manner? We all know the answers.
The post is up only because I found this video of Z.A. Bhutto in UNSC. It is his party which is now doing exactly the opposite.
What's Wrong With 'Paki'?
Not long ago Prince Harry made headlines for calling one of his coursemates from Pakistan a ‘Paki’ and the tabloids continued to carry this as the main story for the next three days. The prince quickly offered his apologies and the dust was settled. The matter looked familiar to me so I spent some time thinking over it. It happened before in 2002 when former (haha!) president George W. Bush said “..the Indians and the Pakis…”
Couple of days back I was asked by a local what does Paki mean? I had no idea! So, I googled the term and discovered this on Wiktionary: (more…)
Are They Qualified?
Talk about a PhD doctor performing brain surgery. This is precisely what is happening in Pakistan. Unfortunately the condition is worse, the surgeon in question here isn’t even a PhD doctor. Perhaps, the doctor is totally uneducated and illiterate.
When any of us apply for a job, the first question to consider is whether the job is suitable for us or not. Obviously holding a degree in electronics engineering I cannot go for a job in structures and construction. Even if I do apply, there is no way of getting accepted.
This makes me wonder what exactly is the criteria for the ministers. Take an example, Raja Pervez Ashraf, the minister for Power and Electricity holds a bachelors degree in an unknown discipline (law is the popular guess). With that knowledge and background, how can he even claim to root out loadshedding in one year? The man has an agricultural background and should know that electricity doesn’t grow on trees. It sounds almost comical when he makes those claims. There is a counter argument that it is not his fault because this is what his team tells him, most of whom are assumed to be qualified in the relevant field. Now this argument doesn’t hold because the team leader should have the knowledge (even if he doesn’t do the work) so that the members of his team are not able to deceive him. (more…)
