Its December!

// December 31st, 2008 // 27 Comments » // Braindumps

Itna shor kyun horaha hai? Kahan ho?” I questioned my friend on phone in Pakistan yesterday. “Shaadi mein hoon“, he answered. Then I called my mom and the first thing she said “Abhi xxx ki shaadi se aye hein.” Arghhh!!

What is it man? Marriage seems to be the buzzword in December. Despite the cold weather it seems that everyone wants to get married in December. Back at home, I used to skip most of the early and mid December marriages due to scheduling of exams those days. This wasn’t all that bad, some marriages are extremely boring. There are those marriages of close relatives and friends where you tend to enjoy. And then there are those when you don’t know a single person and still forced to attend (mostly because of parents). BTW, there is always a table near the end of the marriage halls/lawns where people sit quietly looking down, waiting for the dinner to be served. Those are the ones who don’t know a single soul at the ceremony and are attending by force. I was unfortunate enough to experience that, once.

Coming back to marriages in December, why does everyone want to get married in December??!!!! I remember, when my sister’s marriage date was being finalized, the first choice was December. But then I coerced my parents to change it to March using all possible ethical and unethical means. :P Fortunately, the larkay walay had no problems. I had only one genuine reason: my exams in december! And being the most important person to arrange things from our side I had to be free at the time of marriage!

The good thing about a December marriage is weather. Suits can be worn without worrying about humidity. I think I’m being nostalgic :S

Number of marriages in December will decrease next and the year after and probably the next one because of Muharram coincinding with December.

I know this is a completely useless post and it was just something on my head that had to be dumped. So don’t bother criticizing it in the comment. If you do know why people get married or like to get married in December, then do chip in your two cents.

Conspiracy Theories

// June 26th, 2008 // 2 Comments » // Braindumps

Sometimes I’m forced to think about the ancestry of the people in Pakistan. It has to be linked with Sherlock Holmes, or someone similar (and in reality). Thinking like detectives seems like a congenital disease of the majority. Spending time developing these theories has also developed into some kind of a national hobby of a time-spending (wasting) activity. In such conditions, lies, rumors, allegations and blames perfectly fit in the puzzle. Whether it is the politicians blaming the military, nation believing in a theory that all happenings in the country are conspired by US, saas-bahu stories, the controversies in the cricket team and board, educational institutes or professionals on job being suspicious of their colleagues; all of these and more, they are happy to portray that their present situation is a result of someone else’s conspiracies.

What the hell is wrong with us? When will we learn to accept our mistakes? When will we be ready to take the blame on ourselves rather than dumping it all on someone else? Is it an easy escape to absolve ourselves of responsibilities? Or do we like twisting the realities to suit our side of the story?

Regardless of the myriad unanswered questions, we’re deep into the sin of conspiring and believing that others are doing so. We just love it, don’t we?

Preity Zinta: National Asset of Pakistan?

// May 27th, 2008 // 1 Comment » // Braindumps

Priety Zinta is all set to marry Ness Wadia soon. This will (un)officially make her a National Asset of Pakistan. Confused? Well, Ness Wadia is the son of Nusli Wadia, who is the son of Dina Wadia, who in turn is the daughter of the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam, Mohammad Ali Jinnah. So, Ness Wadia is the great grandson of Mohammad Ali Jinnah. Marrying him will make Priety Zinta the great granddaughter-in-law (if that’s something) of Quaid-e-Azam, and hence an asset of Pakistan ;-)
